1. Introduction
myMuslimBuddy ("the App") is a free Islamic companion app for daily prayer, Quran reading, Duas, Qibla direction, and the Islamic calendar. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how it is used, and how your privacy is protected.
By using myMuslimBuddy you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
myMuslimBuddy accesses only the following:
- Device location (when you use the app) — used only to calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for your geographic position. Your location is sent to the Aladhan API (aladhan.com) solely to retrieve prayer times. It is never stored by us or shared with any third party for any other purpose.
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, health data, financial information, or any other personal data. No account or sign-in is required to use the app.
3. How Your Data Is Stored
All app data — your prayer tracking, Quran bookmarks, reading streaks, and favorites — is stored entirely on your device using a local database (SQLite). This data never leaves your device and is not uploaded to any server.
We do not operate a backend server. There is no account system and no cloud sync.
4. How We Use Your Information
Your location is used only for:
- Calculating the five daily prayer times for your current location
- Determining the Qibla (direction toward Makkah) from your current position
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the core features of the app.
5. Third-Party Services
The app uses the following external services, each governed by their own privacy policies:
- Aladhan API (aladhan.com) — receives your coordinates to return local prayer times. No personal data is stored by this service beyond what is needed to fulfill the request.
- Al Quran Cloud (alquran.cloud) — provides Quran text, translations, and audio. No personal data is sent to this service.
- Expo (React Native) — app framework used for push notification delivery. Notification tokens are stored locally on your device only.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties for marketing or commercial purposes.
The only data transmitted off your device is your geographic coordinates, sent to Aladhan API to retrieve prayer times. This happens only while you are using the app.
7. Data Retention
All data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time by uninstalling the app. myMuslimBuddy does not retain any copies of your data on external servers.
8. Children's Privacy
myMuslimBuddy is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children or from any user. The App requires no registration and collects no personal data beyond the location access described above.
9. Security
All data transmitted to external APIs uses encrypted HTTPS connections. Because your personal data is stored only on your device, it is protected by your device's own security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID).
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
